It happens once a year, nearly 300 competitors from New Zealand and Australia come together in Melbourne for the Annual Will-Michado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships – “the Gathering”.

The event is honored by BJJ Legend and former world champion – Rigan Michado setting the scene for a fantastic weekend of grappling and ground fighting.

At the weekend, Head Coach Karl Norton attended the tournament and won gold, winning the finals in his division by submission with head-arm choke.

Karl says that lots of hard work, having a clear game plan and a great team around him helped win the final.

“we have a great club in such a supportive environment; we have lots of committed students who offer variety to my training.  Variety exposes you to different situations and problems to deal with.  I was also lucky to have some tough matches several months back which helped me with my preparation”.

The tournament was also attended by other fellow NZ Will Michado friends with Mike Fooks from Ground Control taking gold, Andrew Craven taking silver and Pat Te Tau from GSW taking gold in their respective divisions.

The competition was followed up with some outstanding seminar material from Rigan Michado, what a blast!.

A big thank you to John Will for organising such a fantastic weekend – can’t wait till next year.
